RED CEDAR POUCHES
The smell of red cedar is as familiar to me as the back of my hand. It brings back sweet memories of when my parents would landscape our yard with red cedar chips, or when I’d place one of my childhood pets onto a bed of red cedar shavings. This special wood is well-known for repelling unwanted insects and odors while also controlling moisture, which is why it’s often used on lawns and in closets.
Red cedar, to me, smells like a pleasant hike through deep woods after a heavy rain, or the insides of an heirloom chest that hasn’t been opened in decades. It’s both clean and rich at the same time. I decided to use my special Provencal fabric for one more handmade project, and I’ve carefully sewn each pouch to hold a generous handful of red cedar chips, before tying them off with warm vermillion orange chiffon.
