AUTUMN PRESERVED: QUILT BLOCK 4
In the Appalachian Mountains, the autumn season transforms the landscape into a breathtaking canvas of reds, oranges, and golds, as the trees wear their boldest and most vibrant outfits of the year. To preserve a piece of this sensational natural beauty, and to give some fallen leaves an “extended encore” (also expressed as a “second life”), I’ve pressed a handful of intentionally selected leaves before cutting triangles, squares, and parallelograms out of them. These shapes of crimson and ochre have been carefully assembled into nine different classic quilt blocks and secured onto cream squares of heavyweight Italian paper.
